Ok guys. Think about this too. Not only will this licensing allow this program to work, but will let Erica use it for whatever else comes up in the future. Plus, this can be sold once the offical SDK software is released and the profits could go into future projects. Any ideas guys?

I agree. I think 6 figures is pretty outrageous, but I figure this: you said you could possibly contribute $10. I could contribute $25ish to start. 30 people said they would like to use this. Now if each person of those 30 put in $10-$15 that would be $300-$450. This is just the first day, plus only on one website. Not to mention of course, I'm sure that I could convice a few programmers and companies to help sponsor/fund some of the project. If we get enough, I'm sure we could convice gracenotes to take a little bit of a cut on it for the community. Suddenly, it starts to seem a little more reasonable.

Also, once the SDK is implemented, the license can be used for other projects, some that can be sold and put back into use, perhaps even paying for the licensing. Idk, I'm trying to think long term tho, not just for this project, but more to come.

If someone thinks this is too ambitious, just let me know. I'm glad to hear everyone's opinion.

in my opinion this amount of $$ is unreachabl... idk if u guys hav herd of the rom repos that were set up a lil while back but anyway they only needed 250 for a new server and it took them nearly a week... sure this was partially the result of poor advertising but still... if u attempt to raise that money u will need apprx 10000 ppl to donate with the avg person donatin $10..... seems unrealistic that this could even be reachd over a yrs time... :: pf edit :: no warez links, thanks :: edit ::

Honestly, I really need to email her back. I was extremely busy today at work and with a little one on the way, I had to deal with someone who was a little moody too. I will try and talk to Erica today and see what the actual cost is.

Six figures? not gonna happen, nor is it worth it (in my opinion) to pay some company such a ridiculous amount of money to have this feature on the phone. Try and get the cash together if you can, good luck to you. If I were to spend my time raising that much money I would do it for a cause such as cancer awareness or something (and I regularly do )

Or at LEAST get something more useful developed like a palm OS or something like so running on the phone!

No, this is completely legit, which is why I haven't taken in anything yet. I want the site admins to monitor the account and they haven't gotten back to me. I have the account set up, but I'm not taking any donations for it yet because I want this to be regulated. If there arent enough supporters i will not continue this. I also plan on contacting Gracenote to see if there is any other way to do this.

If any one knows how gracenote works, maybe we could start our own database. I really have no idea how complicated this would be butthat might be an option too.

Something just occurred to me...
Let's say this costs $100,000 (just so we can get 6 figured on the board)
Also, 5,000 people total contributed (picked a nice round number)
And let's say we collect only $12,000 in total
Who is the lucky one getting rich? Surely each of the 5,000 people will not be tracked down and given their money back?

Just a thought, not that it matters to me too much. But if we did get $100,000 together I think the person holding the cash would think twice before pumping it into this app. I am not accusing anyone. Hell, I'll put myself in this situation real quick.... yeah I would definitely use the money to pay for my college loans and vet school!

yes, to be honest if i collected the $100,000 i would be a bit hesitant in letting in out of my site, only real solution is to donate it directly to the developer, even the developer might not be too willing to continue with the app (please dont take this the wrong way, its a generalisation)

of course then we wouldnt be able to keep track of how far we're getting etc..

I get this service per charge on rogers as is.....if i remember when the bad news was posted that if users really wanted it, it could be arranged at $1 per usage as licensing was riduculous cost.


I'm sure if was $1 per use and erica could convince company that XXX # people would use it if cost was put to < $0.20 it coudl be negotiated.


As for licensing and future development possibilities...it stops at what there server does now, no future just a server that takes sound and analysis them and reports results.
