I have 3 car chargers in the 3 cars. I've tried this now with 2 of them, and the charging circuit appears to be different, not allowing charging through the FireWire pins.
Guess I'll need to 'mod' them.

It also doesn't work with my Alpine headunit connecter, which really, really sucks.

I wonder if the dock will work. I know the phone won't fit as it has different dimensions, but thats nothing a few seconds of a dremmel sanding tool cant fix to shave some of the plastic off the dock to make the 3g fit into it.

my car charger works. I think its a griffin one i'm not sure. but you can plug any usb device in to it and it charges just fine. And whats with apple not giving us a dock?

I had to dremel the spit out of my old dock to fit the iPhone 3G. My belkin car charger also doesn't work. Any thoughts on if it can be altered?

Yes, it has to be mod'ed to charge from the USB ports, not easy however

'Cuz it uses USB charging.
all Apple docks use USB charging too.

I have a alarm/radio that my gen 1 iphone worked on....but my 3g doesnt work with it. it doesnt charge or play music.....apple is always fu&^ing up. Gps is what really pisses me off. thats the whole reason i wanted to upgrade. but it'sjust a dot on a map....no turn by turn....shitty
