Do you remember that game 'Defend Your Castle' with the stickmen that tried to invade your castle? I was looking for a game like that in the Appstore and came across Fieldrunners.

Fieldrunners is a game along the same lines, although it's not stickmen you're fighting it's tanks, helicopters, footsoldiers, and other miscellaneous attack vehicles. (I must admit though, I do miss the stickmen.)

There are three levels, Easy, Medium, and hard. The object of the game it to defend your tower. The battlefield is a big square surrounded by trees and is book ended by an entrance and your tower. The enemy enters the battlefield and you must kill them before they get to your tower.

With each kill you get money. Depending upon the kill, you gain anywhere from $1 on up. The money is banked and as your dollars increase, you can buy weapons. Your bank is displayed in the upper right hand corner and your weapons store is displayed on the lower left hand corner. Also as your bank increases with each kill, the weapons you can buy light up. This is a nice visual way to figure out what weapons you have at your disposal.

To buy a weapon you simply drag and drop the weapon on to the battlefield to wherever you want to place it. One rule is you must give the enemy a path to your tower. You can't completely close off the access to your tower. If you attempt to drag and drop a weapon in a spot that would cut off access to your tower, the weapon lights up red and won't let you place it in that particular spot.

All weapons are upgradeable. To upgrade a weapon already on the battlefield you simply tap it and you get to either choose the sell the weapon, thus putting money back in your bank, or upgrade the weapon.

Your choice of weapons include machine guns, a goo gun, missile launchers, and a shocker. Not to be confused with a 'shocka.' That's another story and would in all likelyhood be denied for the Appstore.

Gameplay is fast and responsive. The graphics are awesome. The in game sounds are lacking but very handy for when you're playing it at work and you don't want anyone to know.

Your health is displayed in the upper right hand corner. You start with 20 health points and as each enemy gets to your tower you lose one health point.

I love the ability to save your progress and resume play. All in all this is fun game to play and is very popular. The Appstore has it rated at 4 1/2 stars.

I've had this since launch, easily one of the best games for the iphone. I play it daily, even more than Galcon, which is probably THEE best iphone game :P

This is easily my most used/played app. I'm just stuck on friggin' level 90 on medium. I can't pass that level for the life of me!

I just picked up this game yesterday but have not gotten around to playing around with it yet. With all the great reviews for this game, I figured it must be worth the $4.99 they are charging for it.

I will write a small review on this once I play it and let you guys know what I think. Excited ... yet so busy.

This game, at 1.0, is easy to defeat. They need to upgrade it with new maps and/or new rules to make it more "playable".

SPOILER ALERT: if you have bought the game and want to enjoy it longer, don't read on.

The easy way to beat the game is arrange your Gatling Towers, horizontally, starting one step from the exit, right in the middle. when you have a continuous (say 6 or 7) towers, the enemies may only take 2 ways to the exit, above or below the tower line. The magic is you can place one Tower at, above the defense line, and right at the exit to force the enemies to go from below the tower line, and when they are just about to go thourgh, you pause the game, sell that blocking tower for $3, and place a new Blocking tower, this time below the defence line and right at the exit. The enemies then has no way to go through and will go back to try the upper route again. Each time you do that you only loose $2, but all the enemies will be sure dead except the Helicopters, which are also easily dealt with by other weapons you buy when you have more money.

The developer need to introduce some new rules, say limiting the chance of selling weapons in each round, or redesign the cost for buyng and selling.....etc

Overall, very very good game and graphics, will be perfect with some sound effects and new rules.

I found this out too...I try not to use it because I want to beat the game straight up. Easy is well, easy. I can only get to level 99 (in the last day or two) on Medium though.

Huge fan of this game. Out of all the games I've reviewed so far, this is the only one I haven't taken off of my iPhone at all.

While I CLEARLY suck at this game, the review I did for it does include a video and some extra screenshots. Definitely worth the buy.

Are there any in game sounds at all? Cause I'm not getting any
