So, avoiding baseband upgrade = much higher chance of soft unlock...

but wouldn't the baseband update include "important" improvements?

If by "important updates" you mean locking out the 3G unlock, then yes.

Otherwise - maps, podcasts, all those 2.2 updates are largely unaffected by the baseband.

i only went updated my jailbroken in itune yesterday didnt i!!!
now that sucks big time.
so in short i can get 2.2 jailbreak on my 3G, but no network/phone??? so its gonna be like a ipod touch?

so if you are on the 2G iphone, you can do an "update" on the iphone via iTunes then just use QuickPwn to jailbreak it? thats it right?

What is the baseband that we should have to have the unlock? I don't need the unlock, but later on it may come in handy.
