I already tried doing this.
Basically yes... just do the steps as I list them. Forget all you know right now.

Well did it erase everything? Your pwnage logo should have dissapeared at least if you did this right.. if it didn't... then I really don't know what to tell you! If you want to try other things, then PM your MSN and I'll try and help you for another half hour or so.

Nope I only have MSN haha... oh well. I dunno what to tell ya! You've tried restoring in DFU on another computer and still the same problem?

Have you tried creating a new user account with admin proviledges in Windows, and installing iTunes on the account, and restore through DFU?

Yeah but I'll try it again, otherwise I guess all hope relies on my genius friend.

I wish there was some way I could manually wipe the hard drive, like open up the iPhone as a drive and somehow copy and paste files. ugh.

If that was even possible

Your only hope is to restore it on another computer. Maybe it'll work at your friends place. Good luck! Sorry I couldn't revive it!

Sucks... but that's why jailbreaking and such is at the owners risk. I know quite a bit about these machines, and mines not even jailbroke!! My 2G was all the time, but now I have no reason to jailbreak my 3G, and I love it too much to start screwing with it!

Yeah I loved mine too. I can't spend 600 dollars on a new one either.

Am I stuck with the att plan regardless? With all the iphone extras?!

Yup I think so... I can definitely say though that if I had that iPhone in my hands, I have a hard time imagine that I could not get it running again.

But one thing you could do, is to go back to ATT, and report your phone stolen, and try to get them to have pity on the situation to at least give you another iPhone for a really decent price. It just may work ya know!

Click the image to open in full size.

Does this mean it's not "bricked" and it's a phone problem? Wouldn't it say if my phone was deactivated?

Ive worked for several major Cell phone service providers at their corporate locations and i can tell you unfortunately, that they don't give rats behind if your phone was lost or stolen unless you insurance for the phone on your att account..even then the replacement is almost never in store as a claim has to be filed through whoever the insurance company is. Unfortunately you are stuck with the ATT plan and account unless, you just got ATT within 30 days of today's date, by that I mean you were a new subscriber signup. If so you can cancel the current account with no termination fee. However doing so will result in you losing your phone number...Now if you dont mind losing the number and you did sign up with ATT within 30 days of today's date...my recommendation to you is cancel your account, go back into an ATT or Apple store and sign up for ATT again with a new account that will allow you to get the iPhone 3g @ 199 or 299 depending on the model.

Unfortunately if you cant get the phone to restore on you friend's computer then you are out of luck as that phone will be a useless brick until the DEV team releases a new version of pwnage which you can then try or apple releases a firmware/itunes update. Good Luck seems like your gonna need it.

PS: your iPhone not working has nothing to do with your account, your service is still active with ATT its just that the device you currently have is not working, case in point if you take your sim out of your iPhone and put it into another GSM/ATT phone you will be able to make a call, why, because the service itself is still active on the SIM and your ATT account, the only time that would show deactivated is if your actual service itself was not working, ie you didnt pay your bill and ATT disconnected your line.
