Best Native IM App for 2.xx ?

Ok so basically i cant find a good IM app that would cover yahoo, msn, and aim, that will work on 2.1 and also RUN IN THE BACKGROUND, with out some kind of website related service where they send you an email alert when you get an IM. I would much rather just get the IM (without having to leave the app running) like i get text messages, Instantly!. IS there such an app? PLEASE LET THERE BE! lol... coming from years of blackberry use, this is really killin me... Thanks in advance..

ps. my 2.1 is jailbroken and i have cydia and installer.

The Apps in the AppStore do not run in the background.
Statusnotifier only shows E-Mail, Calls and SMS notifications, it's no IM app.

I'm also looking for an IM app that runs in the background

Well there isn't since your on 2.X...Only chat apps at the moment are App Store apps...So if you want to have background chat...Downgrade to 1.1.4 and install Agile Messenger...

Otherwise, wait or live without background

beejive on the appstore utilizes push and works pretty well (from what I read). At 16 bucks they are simply monopolizing on the fact that no other app does this at the moment, though.

just saw a new app in cydia - Backgrounder - supposedly used to let appstore apps run in the background. anyone else tried this?

sounds interesting, if anyone can shed light on this or how it works that would be great!

btw i have tried Palringo and it sucks imo.. i broke down and bought Beejive but i still rather have an instant notification messenger vs. a push email alert one. Thanks for your responses so far, its nice to see a forum thats not half dead =).

Until Apple releases the push service for 3rd-party apps, you won't see this.

edit: after second look... if the phone locks after 1 min etc.. it wont vibrate till you unlock the phone again... bummer.. anyone know if there is a way to buzz u even if your phone is just locked in your pocket?

Heads up if you're on a 2G phone: using backgrounder will lock you on EDGE meaning you won't be able to receive calls while having this app running.

Try insomnia. (could possibly do the trick.)
edit: on second thought, the suggestion seems redundant.

Backgrounder with AIM...

AIM will continue to run in the background, stay connected indefinitely (even switching between different cell towers and wifi), and will provide audible and or vibrate notification of a new message (depending on the vibrate switch position). I've only been using this for about half a day, but so far it hasn't seemed to kill my batterly life too badly.

Plus, playing pandora while browsing the web in safari just puts a smile on my face.

I wish I had this months ago! IMO, Backgrounder is *the* best 3rd party app for the iPhone and completely justifies jailbreaking all on it's own.

EDIT: After some more testing, the network connection does seem to go to sleep after a while. Possibly insomnia could offer a solution...
