Grocery List

I love Things for my everyday task list, it's simple, efficient, and syncs with my desktop. But I feel that Things is not that great at Grocery Lists because I like to check off the items that I purchased. Also, making a "Project" for a trip to the supermarket and listing individual items as tasks seems like overkill.

So I just checked the Itunes app store and there's a bunch of grocery/shopping list apps out there for the Iphone including Pick&Choose, Shopping List, Speed Shop, Groceries Grocery List, Shopper, Splashshopper, Shoplist, Grocophile, Grocery Gadget Shopping List, phew! I'm curious what you guys like to use, something simple and efficient.

Thanks!
Alexander

I also use pick and choose.

You can set up pre-defined lists like

Staples: or Office-Supplies: or Walmart: etc.

then I love the "check off but don't delete feature"

I can go down my list, pick up a item, click the list, and it puts a really nice red scratch through. Really great, and I don't have to keep creating common lists for items I always buy. (think bachaelor foods)

Bachelor foods? So like chocolate syrup and whipped cream?

And are any of these free? I'm too lazy to look. Windows did it to me I swear...

Do any of those apps sync with your desktop (i.e. have a desktop application you can type in the items)?

Most of those apps are $4.99? Sorry, the pricing to feature ratio is not quite there for me, imho...Kudos to those developers, as it looks like people are buying, based on reviews.

I use Things every day. I love the wifi sync feature, typing in lists and to dos on the desktop version (free fully functional demo for now), and it auto syncs to the iPhone, much faster than doing it on the phone. I just delete the items off the list on the phone as I buy them....back at the house, poof, the lists re-sync next time I walk in wifi range.

It seems like Grocery IQ and Pick & Choose are the most recommended. I'm kinda leaning on Grocery IQ because:

-Grocery IQ-130,000 items vs. Pick & Choose- 1,500 items
-Grocery IQ has details such as brand name and type (example: Jif Peanut Butter, extra crunchy, 18 oz). Pick & Choose lists items as: "Butter", "Shampoo".
-Grocery IQ has favorites list.

Both seem to allow e-mailing the list. Sync is coming in Grocery IQ v2.0.

Now the deal killer is which program is more efficient in terms of finger tapping and requires less typing? So which one is easier and faster?

hartphoto,

my Things on Iphone doesn't sync unless I tap on the app on my Iphone, even when I'm in wifi range. Is it not supposed to work that way?

Yes, both apps have to be open, and both computer and iphone connected to same wireless network.

But, tapping Things to open it and auto sync is pretty painless. My desktop (actually a MBP) is always on, always running several apps.

----NOTE------

Just saw that Grocery IQ is on sale for $1.99 today (10/9/08) only. Might have to check that out, especially if autosync is coming!

I wish if any change was made it would push to the phone. Or at least give an option to check sync ever 1 or 5 minutes.
