ah, just kidding... of course i figure it out right after i post that!
ok now could you help me please? i have been stabbing at this for HOURS!!! I added rules to my firewalls, even disabling all but my primary one but i still get "Connection Failed - Connection could not be made to host 192.168.*.*"
Does the server have to be your global ip or is it the local one on your network?

Here is what I've done/tried:

In VNC Properties User Mode:
-Added both the global ip and local ip addresses of iphone to list
-port 5900
-VNC password double checked
On iPhone:

Name: Home
Address: 192.168.*.*:5900
Password: *******
Display: 0
Shared: off
View only: off
pixel Depth: 16

Someone with a CCNA please help lol. What am I doing wrong?

some people put 5900 but for some its 5901.
ok heres the deal dude go into your iphone touchpad app and enter your computers name in the name field and nothing else.
then put your ip address and port number (instead of 5900 put 5901). then go into vnc on your computer and make sure the port reads 5901.
select a password hit apply and hit ok. now go back to touchpad on your iphone and make sure you typed your password in. if this helps hit thanx please. if not let me know cause i had the same prolem

notta thing.... I am so lost now. I'm technically inclined and this stuff is usually very natural to me but I am beyond baffled now. I even tried it on another computer to be sure it wasn't some firewall I was missing... I have no idea.....

update: Booted windows in safe mode w/ networking.... Nothing. I thought sure it was a firewall issue.... guess not.

For those of you having problems:

Does the same thing happen in VNsea? Also, you may need to try forwarding ports 5900 and 5901 on your wireless router.

Brilliant app though, really should be part of VNsea itself.

The thing that caused me trouble with this app and Vine Server was that Vine had already set password, different from the one I specified in OS X Preferences -> Share screen. After I set the same password in Vine and Share screen prefs I logged in without a glitch

I've tried VNSea too... to no avail. I have never been so stumped like this. I disabled the router firewall. Norton has all ports open for my iPhone's ip address. Windows defender is off. idunno....

im a complete tard when it comes to networking, and mine works via edge/wifi w/o a hitch.
One thing i did differently is i use my real ip address (ie: 124.282.18.1:5900) instaed of the 168.192.2.1:5900

just FYI, it's not a good idea to just go leaving your WAN IP address anywhere. Your LAN IP address(192.168.2.1) isn't a big deal since you would have to be ON that router or access point to get into that computer. However your WAN IP isn't like that. I would edit that out

wow this is so legit! I wish it could also work if it was connected via USB (iphone). I mean, I would want to use this at most when I am not at home(for example laptop at school), but this only works when there is wifi

Setup an ad-hoc network...
