The ipod, without a doubt, was built as a way to listen to music, but many say its destiny is to make music.  Many 3rd party iphone/ ipod touch apps are appearing that allow the user to play their favorite instruments on the unique touch interface.  All easy ones have been thought of already; there are guitar apps, drum apps, piano apps, but what about a gangsa app? What is a gangsa? A gangsa is a Balinese Xylophone-like instrument composing of tuned metal bars connected to a wood case by string. Guitar Chords

Are you a musician, specifically a guitarist? Then you are in luck, because Guitar Chords is just for you. This app has pretty much every chord that you could think of playing on a six string, standard tuning, guitar. But it gets better! Scales are also included in this app. But we're not talking simple one positions for each chord, there can be several different fingerings and fret positions available, which this app includes. As far as features go: There is a fretboard picture for about the top 45% of the screen, and then the rest of the screen has the setting for what letter, and then suffix (maj, m, dim, etc...). The scales page is not much different, just substituting the suffix with the style of scale. iPhone Video Recorder

Iphone VideoRecorder by Dream Catcher (http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com/) allows us to take videos with our Iphone. The app is not free if you want full functionality, if you don’t pay the license videos are limited to 30 secs, you can’t change the default signature, and there is a limit to the number of videos you can take while “trying” the app. The license costs us$19. To install the app, add the following repository for installer: http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com/install After refreshing sources, the app will appear under multimedia. The main screen provides us with the list of taken videos (encoded or not yet encoded), the “capture” button (nice camera button in the middle), and the configuration button. When we select a video we can watch it, share it (YouTube or e-mail), rename it or delete it. Also, if encoding wasn’t done, we can finish it. MobileScrobbler is what every last.fm lover wants on their iphone or ipod touch, It allows the user to upload (scrobble) music you have been listening to on the ipod feature. PhotoBoard

PhotoBoard is an incredible application that I firmly recommend. It is available through Installer and you will only need Community Sources to be able to install it. PhotoBoard is a multitouch photo browser that allows you manipulate your photos by pinching, dragging, zooming, and even rotating your images/photos. HOW TO USE Using PhotoBoard is very easy! You start off by tapping on the application. You will be directed to this screen: Tap on the screen to start using the application. Ones you do, you will only see your avatar covering the whole iPod/iPhone. Tap on the screen again, to bring the round menu. The Piano is a great instrument to emulate on the ipod touch/ iphone; while other instruments involve multiple movements that are hard to perform on the touch interface, pushing the keys of a piano isn’t hard at all. Naturally, it was one of the first instruments turned into an app, but Sean Heber of iApp-a-Day decided to cash in on the craze and make his own piano app, called Piano. It has a simple, one octave keyboard, and though there is no animation when a note is pressed, the finger detection is spot-on. At least 2 notes can be played at a time. The sound is obviously synthetic, as if from an 8 bit videogame. With only one octave to work with, one must be creative in wrapping full tunes around the screen. Though there exist piano simulators of higher quality, a different sound is refreshing and nonetheless fun to play ...

PocketTouch

PocketTouch is the app for the one who want to have their iTouch/iPhone in their pocket, and still be able to manage the basic music commands ( play/pause, switch song and change the volume). To change song, you swipe on the display, left fort the previous song, and right for the next one. You change the volume by swiping on the display up or down (the volume control is much better then the one in the original musicplayer i think, because its less sensible). To play/pause you simply tap the display. You can also choose to change song using the accelerometer, by shaking the player either left or right.
