AppleTap is an application, which gives you all the information of all the apple products. The information includes when the product was released, when it was last updated and link to the product page.
It also has a quite interesting Timeline feature which is actually a list of all the Apple products ever released arranged in a 10 year period block.
The following features are planned for the future:
• Finshing Apple screen with all items having a picture.
• Adding a search feature.
• Changing timeline blocks from 10 years to years
• Adding Settings
Currently this application needs Jiggy Runtime to run but is expected to be ported to objective C.

This application is available from ModMyI Repo, a Community Source on Installer.

ContactFlow is an awesome utility/toy. It extends the pretty interface of CoverFlow to that of the contacts app. Though this app has made it to version 0.95, it still has a ways to go. There are several bugs. Some graphics need some tidying up. In the end, however, it is usable- and very cool too.
The major bugs are that certain graphics disappear after tapping them, and that there are random crashes (though the crashes happen very seldom). Aside from those issues, the app flows well, as it should since that is the premise. It also supports the accelerometer, changing orientation (only between landscape positions). There are a couple of settings too, such as Displaying all contacts (displays a picture of a silhouette if no picture on file), showing E-Mails, One-Click calling and Display Order.
This app was really hard to give a good rating to. However, it extends one of the coolest features on the iPhone to the Contacts list. After tough deliberation, I gave this app a C+, because it has such great potential if a major update is released.

Customize 2.0

From the developers who brought us such useful apps as DockSwap, rSBT, and iStudy, the people at The Spicy Chicken now unveil their greatest app yet: Customize 2.0.

Customize 2.0, a revamped version of Customize 1.0, integrates all of the most revolutionary features in iPhone and iPod Touch User-Interface tweak-ability. The newest version of this application even incorporates a Summer Board replacement called FreeBoard that, as far as my tests go, works flawlessly. From modifying your wallpaper, to tailoring your interface to be unique, to the changing of system strings with complete ease, Customize 2.0 does it all….without a fuss!

At first boot-up of Customize 2.0 you are presented with an easy to navigate menu. Some of the most important options are described as follows:

- Theme Browser – This sweet feature connects you directly to The Spicy Chickens central
- Theme sever. From here you can browse the hottest new themes, the Top 40 downloaded, or go one by one through the hundreds of themes available at the swipe of a finger. The greatest part of this integration is that you can also browse file sets to download specific parts of themes, such as battery indicator icons, or carrier logos. From the My Themes section, you can apply the themes you have downloaded or specificy parts of a theme you desire to activate.
- Customize Image/Sounds – This is where all the magic happens. Here is where you can get down to the nitty gritty customization of your unit. From changing your Dock Image, to each and every system sound it can all be done here. The app will automatically list all downloaded files and feature sets and allow you to preview them before applying.
- Make Backup Now – Even though this option is quite self explanatory, it is by far the most powerful and my favorite part of Customize 2.0. After creating your custom theme, you can instantly make a backup and revert to previous backups without worry. No more restoring to factory defaults in iTunes to get yourself out of a bind, woohoo! Again, this feature works flawlessly.
- Edit System Strings – There are some people who love to completely distinguish the look of their unit from others, and by using the system string editor included in Customize 2.0, you accomplish just that. This editor allows you to change the default text notifications to something of your own. Examples include the ability to modify the Low Battery Title, the Call Miss title, In Call Title, etc. The list of editable system strings is quite long, so there is much room for uniqueness.
- Import SMB Themes – Lastly, this life saving feature allows you to import those old Summer Board themes you just can’t let go into Customize 2.0 (hey that rhymed!). With a single tap, the pre-downloaded Summer Board theme of your choice is instantly added into the Customize 2.0 database. This feature can also be used in conjunction with the newly released ModMyIfone MMiThemer application, which allows you to download Summer Board themes with simplicity and elegance.

All in all, this is one iPhone and iPod Touch application that should definitely be sitting on your Spring Board.

More information on Customize 2.0 can be found at http://thespicychicken.com/ or you can find it on the MMi Repo http://modmyi.com/installer.xml

Dactyl, or what I like to call “Wack-a-Mole on steriods”, is great, simple, fun. It takes ones full concentration to play, and can truly consume one. The object is to ‘diffuse’ bombs by tapping them. They keep popping up at random, and will detonate if not tended to within about 2.5-3 seconds. Sounds easy right? At first, it is. But as time goes on, it gets harder and hard. I play with my two index fingers, my girlfriend, with her thumb. We have battles to see who can reach a score the other can not. I like the simplicity of the game, and that anyone can play it. I could teach my 6 yr old brother how to play this in less than a minute. If you are non-competitive, stay away! This game is for those who have to be the best!
Graphics look good in this game. The animation that plays when it blows is similar to what one would find when a game of ‘Concentration’ is lost. There is even a sound that plays when a new bomb sprouts, in case ones finger is in the way of it. The only problem is a lack of a high score list. That is why I give this game a B+. High scores are a must, otherwise we have to resort to taking screenshots to prove our victories.

Though 3rd party iPhone/ iPod Touch apps that simulate instruments are plentiful, ones that incorporate the devices’ accelerometer are few. Drum, as the last application designed by Sean Heber for his iApp-a-Day project, needed to be innovative, but simple. Drum is both. It is not so much a normal: “Push-the-button, hear-the-noise” instrument simulator like a drumpad or drumset, but rather it is a…drumstick.

The “Drum” is played by waving the device to and fro in the manner which one hits a drum with a drumsick. Each time the accelerometer senses this motion, a tone is produced. This tone is not the crash of a cymbal, the ring of a tom, or the snap of a snare, but a simple “electronic” tone. This tone’s pitch can be controlled by placing ones finger on the touch screen, letting the user play higher tones with his finger at the bottom and lower ones with his finger at the top. Though it is odd that pitch modulation is available for a drum simulator that sounds nothing like a drum, it is still fun to play with. Sean seems to have made his own instrument, one that involves throttling your device like a mad man while dancing to your own beat.

To try it out, you can download this app from installer using the iApp-a-Day source (http://www.iappaday.com/install/), and can visit http://www.iappaday.com to learn more about Sean Heber’s Drum app and his other iApp-a-Day programs.

There quite a few instrument simulators out there for the iphone/ ipod touch, but the amount of them that make use of the accelerometer is in the single digits. As the last application made by Sean Heber for iApp-a-Day, it had to be innovative. Instead of being a drum pad, drum set, or any other beat machine, it is more like a drum stick. By whacking your device violently in the air like a drumstick, a tone is produced. The pitch of this tone is controlled by what position your finger touched the onscreen picture of a drum. When your finger is closer to the top of the screen, the pitch is lower. When your finger is at the bottom of the screen, the pitch is higher. Though it is odd that pitch control is offered in a drum simulator, it can be applied to make melodic baselines instead of rocking beats. It is simple, but plenty of fun. If you want to rock out too, you can download this app from installer using the iApp-a-Day source (http://www.iappaday.com/install/), and can visit http://www.iappaday.com to learn more about Sean Heber’s Drum app and his other iApp-a-Day programs.

Touted as a Summerboard replacement, FreeBoard has the potential to be so, but is not quite there yet. FreeBoard is an app by TheSpicyChicken (creators of Customize), and is available on the MMi installer source. The main feature that this app offers is a 5 icon dock, for free, on f/w 1.1.3 and newer. Previous to this, Kate (Caterpillar) was the only app that was able to accomplish this, though it was TrialWare. Other features include: “Show Wallpaper”, “Hide Icon labels” and a toggle for the app itself. A nice feature also is that FreeBoard simply adds itself to the front page of customize, leaving no extra icons on the springboard.

My first impressions of this app were that it worked just fine. However, (I didn’t connect the dots at first) FreeBoard messes with running apps (Kate, Intelliscreen, Pysl, etc.), stoping them at random. Also, when attempting to drag icons to the dock, it will make a 6 icon dock; cutting off the last icon. For now, the bugs out-weigh the benefits of the app. But look out for this app, if the Devs keep up, it will far surpass Summerboard.

Fring is an application that allow you to chat! Mainly chat, but it also allows voice chat via VOIP.
It allows chat with many clients, more than other chat applications. It allows chat with Skype, MSN, ICQ, SIP, Gtalk, Twitter (chat only), Yahoo chat only, and AIM (chat only).

The chat on Fring is basic. No emoticons, no profiles (buddy info), no away messenges, yada yada yada…. BUT it is really good for keeping you connected!

But the voice chat is something different. It is exceptionally awesome, to put it simple. There is no support for iPod Touch owners, at least for the voice chat. You can chat with your buddies from Skype, MSN, ICQ, SIP, and Gtalk. You can add phone numbers add buddies, and *call* your friends.

In my opinion, Fring is a great app, but doesnt get the credit it deserves. I hope that if you see Fring, you try it.The source is http://fring.com/iphone.xml, under the Category Fring

By selecting your firmware version in the Preset Firmware Version, these problems can be solved easily.
Moreover, you can customize your Firmware and Build Verison. (The Tag)
For example, if you enter “ModMy” into Firmware Version, and “iFone” into “Build Version”, the “Version” in your iPhone’s About Page will show ModMy (iFone).
Lastly, it will also show your current firmware version with a badge on the SpringBoard.

The ipod, without a doubt, was built as a way to listen to music, but many say its destiny is to make music. Many 3rd party iphone/ ipod touch apps are appearing that allow the user to play their favorite instruments on the unique touch interface. All easy ones have been thought of already; there are guitar apps, drum apps, piano apps, but what about a gangsa app? What is a gangsa? A gangsa is a Balinese Xylophone-like instrument composing of tuned metal bars connected to a wood case by string. When a player hits a bar with a mallet, the gangsa produces a resonating tone. Sometimes these bars are muted by the fingers to stop the resonance. Would you have ever known that if not for this app?
Well, besides choosing an original instrument to emulate, this app is fully functional.

Although this gangsa is only outfitted with 5 bars, the app features the ability to mute each bar either momentarily or until otherwise toggled of. On each side of the bars is the wood of the case, which are also playable. By pressing a small “i” in the corner of the app, the playing areas and mute-toggle areas are outlined and labeled. This very realistic app is a lot of fun, and you can download it from the ModMyI installer source (http://modmyi.com/installer.xml) or the source of the designer, Masayuki Akamatsu (http://akamatsu.org/repo.xml) . To learn more about the Gangsa app or Masayuki Akamatsu’s other programs, visit http://www.iamas.ac.jp/~aka/iphone/
