Introduction:

Ever had a certain video or picture album you preferred wasn’t available to everyone who happened upon your iPhone?  Available to purchase for $9.99, HidePod promises to solve that problem for good.  In this review I will discuss what HidePod does well, and whether or not it’s worth the price tag.

Features:

Masquerade:

This feature is an excellent one.  Masquerade mode allows the program to hide behind a calculator clone.  When this option is selected, HidePod overwrites your original calculator (don’t worry, it’s easy to recover) with its own version. To access HidePod, simply enter a pre-determined number combination (which can be customized later). You will then be taken into HidePod itself.

Hide Video:

Here you may select which media you would like to hide.  When hiding media you are shown all of your items in list format.  To hide files simply tap it once, then select “Move to hidden”.  Navigate to the hidden folder within HidePod to play the video.  Just remember that after moving a file to the hidden folder, you still must delete it from the original iPhone interface.

Hide Photos

Very similar to the hiding of videos, except this time you are shown a list of photos instead.  To hide a photo, click on the item, then tap the “Move to Hidden” button.  Remember, like video, you still must delete the original file!

Hide Applications:

Another nifty feature offered is the ability to hide applications.  Once hidden, the selected program disappears from your Springboard.  To access it, simply click “run” within HidePod.  Since everything is contained within HidePod, only someone who knows the password can use the hidden applications.

Negative:

While HidePod does a great job at hiding media content, the process could be simplified greatly.  For example, video podcasts are not grouped together, forcing you to scroll through everyone of them until you reach the movie you want.  The photos are worse.  No album sorting is available, which means you have to hide each photo individually.  Obviously this can get very time consuming.

No resume play is another fault.  If you are watching a film and exit, you must manually find your way back to where you left off.

Last, even after several updates the user still has to delete the original file after hiding it.  This is a very time-consuming task, especially when you have hidden several movies or photos.

Conclusion:

HidePod isn’t perfect, but it still is a solid program worth the ten dollar price tag.  With the initial purchase comes free updates and support.  Hopefully the updates will address a few of the issues present in the program.
