Ringtones is a native application for the iPhone that lets you create your own ringtones and SMS alert tones from either your music library or the built-in microphone. This app is is a great concept and is on the right track, but is not there yet.

Although the app worked fine for me, the interface is difficult to use if you want to be specific with at which point you would like the ringtone to start at. You have to drag a slider to start start and stop at the point you want and the developers got it wrong in that respect. It took me an hour to get my phone to play “Oh, clean it up Johnny”, an excerpt from one of my favorite RHCP songs. Also, it doesn’t sync with the ringtones I have on itunes already, but that might be asking too much. You will get there Ringtones, someday…
