This is a guide to help you install the tethered jailbreak released by the dev team

1) you need to download a few things; pwnagetool, Redsnow lite, firmware versions 2.1.1 and 2.2.1 from here and rslite patch files (download the firmwares using firefox, it will make your life alot easier)

put the rslite patch files on your desktop!!!

2) open your applications folder. ctrl click pwnagetool and select "show package contents"

now navigate to contents>resources; now in your rslite folder under custom packages drag the cydiainstaller bundle into the custom packages folder in pwnagetool, do the same with firmware bundles (Make sure you dont just replace the whole folder)

in the end your pwnagetool folders will look like this:

3) open pwnage tool and put it in expert mode. select ipod touch then browse for your firmware bundle. select "ipod2,2.2.1...". once it finishes, double click on boot logos and uncheck them. now click build. when it starts with the dfu mode stuff just force quit.

4) open the rslite patch files folder and rslite. drag all of the contents except "rslite" from rslite patch files to rslite

5) put your ipod into dfu mode by holding both the power and home buttons for 10 seconds then let go of the power button and continue to hold the home button for 10 seconds. (your screen should be black)

open terminal and type the following (after every command hit return)

now type

wih your ipod connected and in dfu type in the following

again type

now type

type

6) now do a full restore using the ipsw that you made with pwnage (option click restore in itunes)

7) now again put your ipod in dfu mode and get ready to type in terminal again

close and reopen terminal and type

now type

wih your ipod connected and in dfu type in the following

again type

now type

type

this time type in

your ipod should now boot into a jailbroken system!!!

if you have to boot your ipod again just repeat step 7

common reasons to reboot right after jailbreak:

- restoring from backup

- installing winterboard

your ipod may hang up pretty bad a couple of times within the first 3 days but it will stop happening quickly.
